What is a Data Projector?

A data projector is device that projects computer output onto a large white screen that is wall or ceiling mounted. When purchasing a projector there are 2 key parameters when deciding the right one for your needs. They are brightness and resolution.

Projector Brightness

Brightness determines the comfort level of your viewing screen. The unit of brightness is commonly measured in ANSI lumens. A higher lumen reading will produce a brighter light source per unit of time. If the projector is commonly used in a dark room the ANSI lumens requirement is around 500 ANSI lumens. If you want to be able to see the picture clearly without pulling the curtains down during the day, the brightness should be at least 1000 ANSI lumens.

Difference Between ANSI Lumens Vs Lumens

ANSI lumen value of the projector is usually about 30% of the lumen value of its light source. So, a projector with a 3500-lumen light source might only produce 1050-lumen light. This is commonly a misconception among consumers when purchasing a projector and not truly understanding the difference. Our team of experts will ensure the correct lumens brightness is selected for your viewing requirements.

Resolution

The resolution determines the sharpness of the image quality. If you don't want the image quality to look cluttered and pixelated, the resolution definition should be higher. The common resolutions selected today are 1080P and 720P for a projector output. This will ensure the image is as clear as possible at the viewing distance of your room participants.

At 720P, the viewing resolution gives objects in the output a slightly larger feel to make elements such as text easier to read. This resolution is common for standard classrooms and conferencing rooms that require information to be presented such as text, graphs and images.

A 1080P or high resolution is more commonly used when watching movies to enhance the high-definition detail of the film.
